In Memoriam

Richard C. Cavestri (1942-2014)

Fellow ASHRAE; Columbus, Ohio; joined ASHRAE in 1984. He was active on several ASHRAE technical committees, including TC 3.2, Refrigeration System Chemistry, TC 3.3, Refrigerant Contaminant Control, 3.4, Lubrication, 8.1, Positive Displacement Compressors, and TC 8.10, Mechanical Dehumidification Equipment and Heat Pumps. Cavestri also served as principal investigator for ASHRAE research projects, including RP-1083 , "Chemical Off-Gassing from Indoor Swimming Pools," and 1303; 716, "Measurement of Solubility, Viscosity and Density of Synthetic LubricantslHFC-134a Mixtures"; 761 , "Real-Time Determination of Lubricant Concentrations Dissolved in Alternative Refrigerants"; 779, "Study of Segregation or Fractionation of Refrigerant Blends in Contact with Lubricants and Measurement of Viscosity, Solubility and Density"; 793, "Test Method for Inorganic Acid Removal Capacity of Desiccants Used in Liquid Line Filter Driers"; 867, "Equilibrium Water Capacity of Desiccants in Mixtures of HFC Refrigerants and Appropriate Lubricants"; 923, "Water Solubility in HFC Refrigerant Blends"; 1240, "Method of Test for Identification and Quantification of Organic Acids on Desiccants So As To Determine Refrigerant System Chemical Condition"; 1253, "Measurement of Solubility Viscosity and Density of R-507 (R-125/1 43a; 50:50) Refrigerant Mixtures"; and 1303, "Partitioning of Non-Condensable Gases in Refrigerant Liquid and Vapor Phases." Cavestri also was a contributor to ASHRAE Transactions.

Shelvin Rosen (1924-2014)

89; Fellow/Life Member ASHRAE; Pembroke Pines, Fla.; joined ASHRAE in 1964. His ASHRAE service includes chair of the Standards Committee 35 , Method of Testing Desiccants for Refrigerant Drying, and the Standards Committee 97, Sealed Glass Tube Method to Test the Chemical Stability of Materials for Use With in Refrigerant Systems; a member of Standards Committee 63.1, Method of Testing Liquid-Line Refrigerant Driers, and Standards Committee 63.2, Method of Testing Liquid-Line Filter Drier Filtration Capability. He also served on numerous technical committees, most recently including TC 3.3, Refrigerant Contaminant Control, and 3.4, Lubrication. Rosen also was a contributor to ASHRAE Transactions, and he coauthored chapters in the 1957, 1960, 1962 and 1992 volumes of the ASHRAE Handbook – Refrigeration.
